Blessing of the Animals
On October 5th we will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with an outdoor Eucharist and the Blessing of the Animals at the 10:30 service. Francis was the founder of a religious order for men, The Franciscans, and he preached, among other things, a love for all of God’s creation – hence the blessing of the animals is appropriate. He is also reputed to have said: “Proclaim the Gospel, and, if you must, use words.” So, we invite you to bring pets with restraints or carriers if necessary. There will be treats for both pets and people and who knows, Hosea himself may show up. If it rains – or snows – we will, of course be inside and pictures or stuffed animals representing the pets would also be appropriate. Pray for good weather for October 5th. I can tell you from experience, soggy cats are very difficult to handle.
Devine Breakfasts
Named for its founder, Ralph Devine, the Devine Breakfast is held the 2nd Sunday of every month from 9 thru 9:45 AM. Proceeds are given to various Outreach activities. The September breakfast was in memory of Robert Wise. His widow Lena matched the $244 made in donations made that morning, for a total of $488. The money was given to the rector's discretionary fund.
The next breakfast will be Sunday, October 12.
Proctor Events
All of us are called to ministry. Our catechism says that the ministers of the church are laypersons, bishops, priests and deacons, in that order. On October 11th, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., there will be a workshop at Proctor Center on Total Ministry. The idea of Total Ministry is that there are numerous opportunities for ministry in the life of the church besides being ordained. We are all involved. Bishop Ousley, from the Diocese of Eastern Michigan, will be one of the presenters. If you would like to joint our caravan to Proctor, please see either Fred Ciminello or Fr. Steve. Registration is required but there is no charge for this event.
On October 25, Worship Leader Training will take place at Proctor, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those persons who are recommended by their parish clergy can be licensed by the Bishop to lead Morning Prayer, or to help in the design of services when a supply priest is required. To be licensed you need to be at this event. The cost is $10 for lunch and Registration is required. If this is a ministry that would interest you, please see Fr. Steve.
Bishop Briedenthal Visit
On Sunday September 14 Trinity welcomed Bishop Briedenthal at both the 8 and 10:30 services. He will not only conduct Eucharist but will also confirmed Faith Kelley, and received into the church Matthew and Rebecca Clark.
ECW Yard / Bake Sale
Trinity's Episcopal Church Women (ECW) held a yard / bake sale in Trinity Park September 20. The event was a huge success, raising over $1000!
